Very happy with both FOs! Well maybe a bit less for the trousers, as mentioned earlier because they’re slightly too tight. But I still like them very much and I think they go well with the Renfrew top.
The trousers are from Burda magazine of january 2006, pattern number 107. They’re of course part of my Spring/Summer sewing plan. I don’t know what the fabric is, it comes from a cheap fabric shop in Paris (Stop tissus) and there’s no indication on the bolt. Anyway it’s a tightly woven pinstripe fabric in a brown/khaki colour. What I like best in this pattern is the big yoke, leading my husband to ask if I’m only wearing high waisted trousers.. On the front is a fly plus 3 buttons, which made me practice my buttonholes and daydreaming of a sewing machine equipped with a 1-step buttonhole.
The top is view C of the Renfrew (Sewaholic patterns): it has 3/4 length sleeve and a big cowl neck. You can’t see much of the details because of the black colour. The fabric is a very stretchy jersey knit (100 % polyester); no I did not follow the pattern’s instructions asking for a not-too-stretchy one. It was a bit fiddly sometimes and required a lot of pinning but it worked and the result is very comfortable.
According to my measurements I should have cut a size 12 (the pattern asks for 2″ of positive ease) but after checking RTW t-shirts I own and after my experiment with the Burda Lydia t-shirt, I decided to try a size 8. And it’s perfect for this stretchy fabric; I probably will have to be more careful if I use a less stretchy one.
I enjoyed working on the Renfrew pattern, the instructions are very clear, it makes a change from Burda magazines! I did make a mistake, because I followed blindly the instructions without checking for errata. I should have, but there was no major problem: I just had to unpick a zigzag stitch. I’ll try next time to remember to check the website!
